My active reading is going very well. I feel I have a very good understanding of the books. I can find most metaphors and similes, i'm also good at finding characters and settings. I have a hard time finding themes and scenes sometimes. Other than that i think i can find good key points in each chapter.

I think my strengths are that i have a good understanding of each book. I have a hard time following along in The House On Mango Street only because she doesn't follow any rules on writing books and it can throw me off at times. I find a long way one more interesting. i read better when i can enjoy the book.

I think the theme that i come across the most is probably the most important in the book. The theme of fear is constantly occurring over and over again. Its important to understand this theme because its what the whole book is about. Using fear as a tactic to make everyone do what they want. For example voluntary guards threatened to drown little boys because they were afraid they were rebels."If you do not tell me the truth i'm going to have these men tie stones to your body and throw you in the river." That just shoes the amount of fear everyone has.

  1. I agree that finding themes and scenes can sometimes be hard. I struggle with them too.
