My family is from Guatemala. I have traveled there before. I speak Spanish. I like to play soccer. I am the first person in my family to go to college.
The House On Mango Street, is book where is can compare my life too. The theme that stood out for me personally was the American Dream. I can compare with her , with the goals that her parents had. Because, my parents had the same ones and would often talk about it also. Most all those who are immigrants come with a mentality of becoming someone better in this country.
Vilma, I have never been to Guatemala, but I think it would be a great country to visit. I wonder how your trips there have been and what you liked and did not like? I bet the food and culture are very different and there are many exciting things to try. I have only been as far south as Mexico, but I really enjoyed my time there. Unfortunately, my Spanish is poor, but I still try to learn new phrases when I can and I think it's a beautiful language to know, and very useful. Good job on this first post and nice to have you in class!
