Journal 4 by Daryn Stiers

The chapter I got was Papa Who Wakes Up Tired in the Dark. This chapter is about her grandpa dying and the pain it has brought her papa. This makes him cry and weep at night time to where he can't sleep. Something I wrote in the margin is that I agree with her when she is thinking about what she'd do if her papa died. I'd be lost without my father. One main theme in this chapter is sadness. This chapter is all about them being sad. I believe the writing is at its best when Cisneros writes, "... and then as if he just heard the news himself, crumbles like a coat and cries, my brave Papa cries" (Cisneros 56). This quote paints an image in my head.

My influence was my best friend Noah Botkin. He was a big influence in my life because he was a little bit older than me, and we were always together. Most of the time he was a bad influence. However, sometimes he was a good influence. This did influence my behavior a lot. When he would tell me to do something I would usually do it. One time he dared me to pull the fire alarm when we were and in first grade, so I couldn't chicken out and I thought I had to did it. My habits often changed into bad things. It was a great friendship until we got in so much trouble that his family thought it would be better if they moved away.
