Journal 4 - Nate Riddle

The story that I was assigned to was "Sire." In this chapter Esperanza has some boy problems. She is a little bit jealous of this girl named Lois. But it's odd because Sire has a crush on her. But Sire is a punk and is considered a bad kid in the neighborhood, and her parents don't approve of him. Cisneros uses some great metaphors in this chapter, she writes, "I had to look back hard, just once, like he was glass." (72).  Another good one that I circled was when Cisneros wrote, "Everything is waiting to explode like Christmas." (73). This is because she wants to have a boyfriend and she just wants to explode since she doesn't have one.

The person who had a great influence on my life is one of my friends stringing all the way from pre-k, Tyriq Harris. He has a twin brother and we look kind of alike, so I was always mistaken as his twin brother. But we did everything together, from being suspend in grade school to getting in trouble in Jr. High. But we straightened up when we got to High School and kind of grew apart. But I always know that I will have a life long friend to turn to when I need a laugh or anything else.

  2. I chose a childhood friend also, we did everything together. Slowly grew apart as we got older, but now we don't even talk to each other anymore.
